I bet the printing routine is tied into that. Their code is likely written to need a connection to encrypt and decrypt. I suspect is more likely a simple software issue. Even if you restricted it by firewall, at some point you likely will check for updated software and if they were really evil could send all your data then. If they wanted, they really could send data just about anytime anyway. I am not so distrustful as to suspect nefarious data collection though. Yes, you are correct that printing requires an internet connection. But of course, for customers, it's worse than worthless.

So they created this insane design where data has to be sent to them, converted to PDF using the evil library, and then sent back. But reading between the lines (which isn't always accurate), I'm guessing that Intuit wanted to save money by continuing to use the third-party library. Questions like "What is this service?" "What data does it collect from my computer?" This refusal leads me to think that they are not proud of what they've done.Īctually even if Apple wouldn't let Intuit use the print library they'd intended to use, any reasonable company would simply have switched to an acceptable print library. When your computer is connected, I suspect that this happens in the background, without requring a login. Would you mind doing an experiment? Disconnect your computer from the network (easy to do if it's a wired connection but less easy if it's wireless) and then try to print. This is with the Premier version on a Mac. Encryption does require login in, but printing does not.
